I was going to begin this blog by talking about ‘conservative’ states and their views on LGBTQ. In case you didn’t know, LGBTQ is an initialism for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer or Questioning (Identity and/or orientation).
I then mulled over my opening line, delved deeper in thought on this, and realized that no one nation is wholly liberal. Common misinformation: the West has very liberal views on sexuality and sexual orientation. Errrmm, not quite. A certain religious group in the US is actually asking Mr.President to allow them to discriminate against LGBTQ! Fiendish! And many such sects and patterns of tribalism exist all over the West, and obviously, duh, more so in our very own motherland! Such myopic views are barriers to sociological evolution, obviously leading to an crisis of identity and a fear of revealing to the world, one’s ‘against the grain’ (I’m being sarcastic of the phrase, in case you didn’t notice) identity.
However, the historically ‘conservative’ states such as our very own motherland, countries such as Israel and Turkey, are evolving. Evolution is seen in government and /or the people. Yes, one will always, and I mean always, get ‘the glass is half empty’, negative comments on how what the government and it’s people aren’t doing enough to be more liberal towards LGBTQ, but to all of these people, I say “THE GLASS IS HALF FULL”!
Discovering one’s identity isn’t the issue here, it is finding one’s identity in society that is. What this society is, I don’t know. the definition of this word is constant (Read ‘change is the only constant’ ). This ‘finding’ requires liberalization, this finding requires empowerment of others and this finding requires appreciation of people’s sexuality and their sexual orientations.
